Government Sector Committee Focus:


  • Embrace the Federal Market with agency and contractors committed to sustainability.

  • Green Building and importance of greening the public-sector building stock:
    • Much of the $787 billion in federal stimulus money supports green retrofits of publicly owned buildings at the local, state and federal levels.
    • The federal government alone owns and operates some 500,000 buildings.
    • The federal government has a 28 percent greenhouse gas reduction target for federal operations by 2020.
    • 30 percent of all LEED projects are government-owned.
  • Attract membership to NJ Chapter through joint SAME and NJ Chapter activities.
  • Coordinate with USGBC National Initiatives.

2010 Government -Sector Activities:


  • North Branch Dinner presentations:
    • JP Education regarding EO 13514, GHG and Carbon reporting requirement March 8th.
    • BG “Duke” DeLuca presentation May 10th Joint SAME meeting.
  • Continue to support GSA/EPA annual training conference and exhibit events.
  • Attended Federal Summit 2010, May 18-19 in Washington, D.C., saw record attendance, more than 750 professionals from the green building industry met for two days of education, networking and critical discussions on greening  federal, state and local governments. These attendees, included public-sector employees at the local, state and federal level as well as private-sector employees throughout the industry, engaged in conversations and made connections that will shape green building in the government sector in the year to come.
