OVERVIEW:

THE US GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL-NEW JERSEY ANNOUNCES MAJOR GREEN JOBS TRAINING INITIATIVE WITH STATE LABOR DEPARTMENT for green building training and LEED®accreditation preparation for employees of new jersey businesses.

In an effort to help workers better compete in a difficult economic climate; The US Green Building Council–New Jersey (USGBC-NJ) has entered into a new partnership with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) to provide FREE customized “Green Jobs” training to its chapter members.

The training will center around the field of Green Building to help USGBC-NJ members align themselves with the ever-changing demands on workforce skill. The new trainings will focus in large part on LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) test preparation enabling members to obtain accreditation that will enable them to compete for the proliferation of green oriented work that is on the horizon.

This valuable education opportunity to our members is going to increase the marketability of the companies that they work for to compete effectively and acquire a greater percentage of the jobs created under the State’s Energy Master Plan.

The customized educational programs will be made available at no cost to USGBC-NJ individual chapter members. The customized trainings will be conducted onsite at an employer’s office or in one of the designated USGBC-NJ training facilities.

The two part program will include LEED® Training which includes LEED® Green Associate recommended modules. The first part of the training will include the LEED® Green Building Basics. The second part of the training will include a variety of customized training programs for multiple disciplines also inclusive of LEED® Technical Review and Exam Review.

LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Credentialing is world renown with over 2,000 accredited professional in NJ and close to 100,000 LEED® Professionals Globally in 50 states and 41 countries. The number of projects that require LEED® accredited professionals involved in building projects is growing exponentially to ascertain credible levels of expertise.

All professions have recognized the value or LEED® accreditation in the work place.

GRANT QUALIFICATION and CONDITIONS:

APPLICANTS MUST:

  • BE A USGBC-NJ INDIVIDUAL MEMBER – REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT EMPLOYER IS USGBC NATIONAL MEMBER (if you think you are a USGBC-NJ chapter member, please verify by checking our on-line member directory to be sure you are listed. if you are not yet a USGBC-NJ chapter member, please join today.)
  • BE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED – AND BE EMPLOYED BY A BUSINESS LOCATED IN NJ
  • NOT BE A SOLE PROPRIETOR
  • NOT BE A FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY OR MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE
  • Program participation must not cause any displacement of current workers or any reduction in their hours of employment. Training must not replace or compete with an approved apprenticeship program
  • Training is intended for FT permanent employees. No seasonal or PT workers should be included
  • Participating businesses must provide workers’ compensation coverage for any worker enrolled in the training program
  • Workers are expected to receive their normal wages while involved in training supported by the CT/LT grant
  • If a participating business leaves New Jersey within 3 years of the conclusion of the contract, all monies received under the contract agreement must be refunded to the state
  • Participating businesses must agree to contact and develop a partnership with their Local One-Stop Career Center http://www.state.nj.us/labor/oscc/OSCC.html and list newly created jobs with local One-Stop Career Centers or through America’s Job Exchange http://www.wnjpin.com/oscc/index.html

ONCE YOUR COMPANY HAS RECEIVED STATE CLEARANCE PER ATTACHED SUBMITTALS, USGBC-NJ WILL FINALIZE THE SCHEDULING OF EACH GROUP’S TRAINING CLASSES
